If you're planning a wedding, you've probably noticed that wedding photography can feel like a large expense. However, it’s important to remember that your wedding photos will outlast many other, often more expensive, aspects of your wedding. While the flowers wilt, the cake gets eaten, and the dress is packed away, your photographs will keep the memories alive for many, many years. I won’t be the cheapest wedding photographer in the area, and I’m definitely not the most expensive. At first glance, a full-day package price of £995 might seem steep. But let’s take a closer look at what’s really included and why this investment is more reasonable than it might initially appear.

Breaking Down the Costs
As a professional wedding photographer, a typical full-day package involves much more than just showing up with a camera and taking pictures for a few hours. Here’s a breakdown of the time and effort that goes into capturing your special day:
The Wedding Day Itself (10-12 hours): A full-day wedding often means arriving early to photograph the preparations, staying through the ceremony, and capturing the reception until the evening celebrations and first dance. It’s not just about taking pictures; it’s about ensuring every moment, big or small, is captured beautifully. When I leave the job is only half done!!
Post-Processing (10-12 hours): After the wedding, the real work begins. I will take between 2500-3000 images. Every image needs to be reviewed & edited. This process ensures that the final gallery reflects your beautiful wedding day.
Admin and Preparation (2-3 hours): Before the wedding, there are consultations, planning meetings, and logistical preparations. Afterward, there’s communication, organizing, and delivering the finished product.
In total, a single wedding involves approximately 25 hours of work.
Accounting for Business Expenses
From the £995 package price, about a third goes directly toward covering business expenses, taxes, and National Insurance contributions. Here are some of the essential costs:
Equipment: Cameras, lenses, lighting, memory cards, and backups are expensive and need regular maintenance or replacement.
Insurance: Comprehensive coverage for liability, equipment, and professional indemnity is a must.
Software and Subscriptions: Editing tools, online galleries, and client management systems are necessary investments.
Travel and Other Expenses: Travel to and from the venue & parking fees.
What Does This Mean Per Hour?
After accounting for expenses, taxes, and overheads, the £995 package boils down to about two-thirds of the original price. That means the take-home amount for 25 hours of work comes out to less than £27 per hour.
For a professional who is not only responsible for capturing one of the most important days of your life but also delivering high-quality, lasting memories, this is a modest rate.

The Value of Experience
Beyond the numbers, I bring years of experience, creative vision, and technical expertise. I started my photographic career in photo-journalism and after a successful career last over 30 years I bring that experience to wedding photography. I know how to handle unpredictable lighting, pose large groups, and stay calm under pressure—all while making you feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera.
A Lasting Investment
Your wedding photos are a tangible record of your day. They’re what you’ll look back on for decades, share with future generations, and cherish as priceless memories. When you consider the care, skill, and dedication involved, wedding photography isn’t just an expense—it’s an investment in preserving the moments that matter most.
So, is £995 really that much? When you break it down, it’s a fair price for the time, expertise, and effort that goes into creating something truly special for you.
